7 Future Olympics Logos
Here’s a look at 7 new logos from cities applying for the 2016 Summer Olympics. I think the 2016 games should be done online with various games in different cities. Maybe thats a stretch, but it would be cool to see one day. Either way, as long as i see more of this, ill be satisfied. |

September 5th, 2008 at 12:56 am
Propecia is ridiculous… the Olympics are awesome… and Chicago is going to win!!!!!
September 5th, 2008 at 10:56 am
Chi town.
September 5th, 2008 at 10:56 am
Only the first four are still in the fray.. I like Tokyo, Madrid and of course Chicago.. Rio needs more color
September 5th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Chicago and Tokyo are the only 2 outstanding logos that I can pick out from this range. Apart of these, the rest seems quite unimpressive.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:01 am
I’d love for it to be in Prague.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:03 am
Although, I like Tokyo’s the best, Im sick of seeing ot plastered all over the trains and subways here…
September 5th, 2008 at 11:03 am
Madrid, read between the lines.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:11 am
I would never want the Olympics in my city.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:11 am
And all of them a thousand times better than the London 2012 logo.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:11 am
omg 11:11 make a wish!
September 5th, 2008 at 11:12 am
I like the idea of propecia yawning, i am also sick of the olympics. Lets save everyone a ton of money and skip them for a few centuries

“…the 2016 games should be done online with various games in different cities”
I believe that the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 have the (global) online gaming locked down with genres ranging from MMORPGs to FPS to RTS.
The Olympics on the other hand should be held in 1 city where the best competitors of each country gather to show off their physical prowess. What’s the point of having everything separated into different parts of the world? That’s why there’s the WTA or World Cup for these events.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:19 am
All of them look better than the London logo. And anyway I think mascots should be equally important. Hope they come up with some cute ones like Cobi and Misha =D

September 5th, 2008 at 11:20 am
wow… you made these? those where all great logos.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:23 am
I agree Chicago and Tokyo are very nice and the Madrid one is a bit strange… the others are all a bit of a nothing…
September 5th, 2008 at 11:36 am
Please, by no means bring this ridiculous carnival here.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:37 am
I love Rio and Chicago from a logo perspective, although they do not remind me in any way of the Olympics. Madrid is a nice logo and it signifies teamwork for me which is synonymous with the Olympics. It also has the typical Olympic colors and it meands all fingers / continents form part of the same hand so there is surely a lot of meaning behind it. Absolutely dont like Praha, Tokyo and Idoha. Then Baku is nice but i cannot imagine being rendered on small Olympic memorabilia ! Great post overall !
September 5th, 2008 at 11:38 am
i like the 3ed one
September 5th, 2008 at 11:54 am
tokyo is far and away the best chicagos just makes me think of sears tower, although its probably meant to. Mind you madrid would be the best location. No to the USA because it’ll be following london so that would be two english games in a row which I don’t think is good for the games, and personally I think Madrid would do an awesome job don’t like the logo though.
September 5th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
Web 2.0 much?
September 5th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
awesome Madrid!
Chicago is so cccp
September 5th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
You think it should be done online? I don’t.
September 5th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
all of them are so much nicer than London’s.
September 5th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
all these logos are so 80s … anyone agree?
September 5th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
The Chicago logo is great, but I’ll bet on Rio for 2016 !
September 5th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Sadly, all of these are 10,000 times better than what we got saddled with for the 2012 Olympics in London. It is the most hideous, embarrassing thing ever.
Why, London - why, why, why???
September 5th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
chicago is actually the worst..
other logos are at least creative :]
September 5th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Hmmm, all look a bit dull, as much bad press as the 2012 logo gets, the brand really does stand out from these generic type logos of colour.
September 5th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
@chicago, I very much doubt it, if Chicago wins, the IOC would have to handle some serious criticism to the point of legal investigations into the selection process, USA have had the Olympics in 1984 and 1996 there is no way they’ll get 2016.
September 5th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
cmon chicago, after disastrous games in atlanta–probably the worst organized games since paris 1900–and all the corruption surrounding salt lake america shouldn’t get the games, like, ever or at least not in this century. however, chicago invented crime and corruption so it wouldn’t surprise me if they steal the games in the end. as for the logo, i’m really disappointed by all of them, hopefully final logo of the games, whoever wins them, is gonna be better…
September 5th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
5.6.7 don’t make sense
September 5th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
As someone who really appreciates art and design, my pick is Madrid. Chicago is very boring.
September 5th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Everything is better than 2012 London logo, the ugliest Olympics logo ever.
September 5th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
NONE OF THESE ARE FINAL OLYMPIC LOGOS!
These are ‘bid’ logos. The cities competing for the games aren’t allowed to use the Olympic flame or rings until selected. Chicago actually had an earlier logo where the Sears tower was made to look like the Olympic flame, but the selection committee forced them to change it.
September 5th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
Hey urrgh….Congratulations! You are the dumbest person to post here. “Chicago invented crime and corruption” Are you serious? Have you not read anything about Ancient Rome or Greece? I guess crime and corruption is less than 200 years old then.
The old Chicago logo with the torch and sky line was the best by far but too bad they had to change it. The Rio logo is starting to grow on me. I feel that if Rio can show that they significantly reduce the crime, they will get it. I don’t believe a South American country has ever hosted an Olympics so they have that going for them.
I like Madrid’s idea of using the Olympic colors but the black finger really stands out and that bothers me. Also, when I see a hand print, I either think of a child art project or a crime scene. The Tokyo design seems a little too busy for me.
September 5th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Oh dirrtydirrty, that was tres low!
even though i’m not a fan of smilies, i probably should have put one after the incriminated sentence so:
chicago invented crime and corruption :))
ok? it was kind of a joke. not a good one but anyway. of course chicago didn’t invent either but even decades later it still is a synonym for both, it’s just a fact.
about london (not directed to my good pal dirrty but everyone else complaining), it really started growing on me. i not only hated it - i was disgusted with it. however, i started to appreciate its dynamism, youthfulness and originality. plus, i’m admiring their organizing committee for having the balls to go with this design. i was recently checking all the finalists for london 2012 and this was the one really standing out; i would say that 98% of the works were based on the aerial panorama of river thames and they were just plain boring. so, go london, i wish you all the luck in organizing the games “simple, youthful, loud and fun, just like london itself,” as seb coe brilliantly replied when asked whether london could be half as spectacular as beijing.
September 5th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Chi-town!
September 5th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Wow, what a crappy bunch of logos. Although as amateurish as these are, they are light-years better than the London 2012 logo, which could have easily been conceived by a 3 year old with purple and yellow crayons. Its not like it really matters. The Olymipics sealed their irrelevancy by giving these last games to China, thereby creating the Fakelympics; Fake fireworks, fake singing, fake ages for gymnasts, fake clear skies, fake buildings, fake facades in front of depressed areas, the list goes on and on. The IOC is corrupt and in need of a 100% leadership change. Otherwise they will remain a complete joke.
September 6th, 2008 at 12:02 am
None of them include the Olympic logo. Are they trying to move away from a single universal logo? I sort of thought it suited the name (Oly) to have every country use one symbol as the main subject of their logos.
September 6th, 2008 at 6:16 am
Styyl: As noted above these are only logos for the cities bidding on the 2016 games. They can’t use the Olympic logo until they are given the games and they will probably unveil a new logo with the rings after the selection.
September 6th, 2008 at 6:34 am
The original Chicago 2016 logo was much better looking. It incorporated the Chicago skyline and lakefront into the Olympic torch. Unfortunately, IOC rules prohibit the use of the torch or Olympic logo in the host city logo.

I like Tokyo the best.
September 8th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
very good
September 9th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
I like Madrid and Rio de Janeiro.
Eu gostei de Madrid e Rio de Janeiro.
September 9th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Chicago, Rio, Tokyo and Madrid have passed the first stage of selection and are now “candidate cities” rather than “applicant cities” and they can (and have) now include the Olympic rings in their logos.
The four cities now have to submit detailed bid documents to the IOC by 12 February 2009, they will be visited by an “Evaluation Committee” and the vote will be taken at the IOC Session in Copenhagen on 2 October 2009.
September 10th, 2008 at 3:03 am
soooo much better than the london one…
September 13th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
